Developed by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and now in its fifth edition, Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning is the single best resource for strength and conditioning professionals and students. This comprehensive text explains the key theories, concepts, and scientific principles of strength training and conditioning as well as their direct application to athletic competition and performance. The content of Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, Fifth Edition With HKPropel Access, has been updated to reflect the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a strength and conditioning professional in today's world. Addressing the core proficiencies tested on the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam, the evidence-based approach and unbeatable accuracy of this text make it an ideal resource to rely on for CSCS exam preparation. The fifth edition contains the most current research and applications, including the following: A new chapter on functional and nonfunctional overreaching, overtraining, and the overtraining syndrome, Updated stand-alone chapters to expand on age- and sex-related differences, New research on mental health and the psychological impact of injury in sport, New information on vaping and smoking and the implications for aerobic training, New content about the importance of activating the central nervous system before training, Written by contributors who are leading experts around the world, the text is organized to lead readers from theory to program design and practical strategies for administration and management of strength and conditioning facilities. Key points, chapter objectives, and self-study questions provide a structure to help students and professionals conceptualize the information and to reinforce fundamental facts. Application sidebars provide practical application of scientific concepts that can be used by strength and conditioning professionals in real-world settings, making the information immediately relatable and usable. The online learning tools delivered through HKPropel provide students with 20 downloadable lab activities for practice and retention of information. Furthermore, both students and professionals will benefit from the online videos of 21 foundational exercises that provide visual instruction and reinforce proper technique. Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, Fifth Edition, provides the most comprehensive information on organization and administration of facilities, testing and evaluation, exercise techniques, training adaptations, program design, and structure and function of body systems. Its scope, precision, and dependability make it one of the most widely used preparation texts for the CSCS exam as well as a definitive reference for strength and conditioning professionals to consult in their everyday practice. Note: A code for accessing HKPropel is included with all new print books. "-- Provided by publisher
<tableOfContents>Machine generated contents note: Chapter 1. In doing so, we use institutional logics as a construction manual to achieve consistency between datafication technology controls and aligning leadership agency. We propose three ideally consistent and idiosyncratic configurations that demonstrate how, according to institutional logic, leaders can master the implementation challenge. Besides, we highlight the prevalence of synchronic and diachronic emergence to account for the dynamism within these configurations, configurational elements that have received little scholarly attention but are needed given the inherent dynamism and unpredictable functioning of datafication technology controls.
<subject><topic>Datafication Technology Controls</topic></subject><subject><topic>Configurational Theory</topic></subject><subject><topic>Leadership Agency</topic></subject><subject><topic>Synchronic Emergence</topic></subject><subject><topic>Diachronic Emergence</topic></subject><relatedItem type="host" otherType="Enthalten in" displayLabel="Enthalten in"><titleInfo><title>Research handbook on organizational control</title></titleInfo><originInfo><publisher>Cheltenham, UK : Edward Elgar Publishing, 2026</publisher></originInfo><physicalDescription><extent>1 Online-Ressource (494 pages)</extent></physicalDescription><identifier>10.4337/9781035320141</identifier><identifier type="isbn">9781035320141</identifier><identifier type="isbn">9781035394111</identifier><identifier type="local">(DE-627)1975388224</identifier><part><text>(2026), Seite 182-199</text><text>year:2026</text><text>pages:182-199</text></part></relatedItem><identifier type="doi">10.4337/9781035320141.00022</identifier><location><url displayLabel="Volltext" usage="primary display" note="lizenzpflichtig">https://doi.org/10.4337/9781035320141.00022</url></location><recordInfo><descriptionStandard>rakwb</descriptionStandard><recordContentSource authority="marcorg">DE-627</recordContentSource><recordCreationDate encoding="marc">260727</recordCreationDate><recordChangeDate encoding="iso8601">20260728101101.0</recordChangeDate><recordIdentifier source="bsz-sru-bbw-marc">1980070334</recordIdentifier><recordOrigin>Converted from MARCXML to MODS version 3.6 using MARC21slim2MODS3-6.xsl

Departing from a historiography largely focused on strategic arms and summit diplomacy, the work examines how the modernization of non-nuclear forces formed an integral part of Ronald Reagan's broader Cold War strategy. It shows that the revitalization of conventional forces was not ancillary to diplomacy but a central pillar of a policy that sought to negotiate from strength while enhancing deterrence. Spanning the late 1970s and 1980s, the book explores how the armed forces were rebuilt after the post-Vietnam downturn. It highlights well-known and illustrative case studies-including the M1 Abrams tank, advanced tactical aircraft, naval expansion, precision-guided munitions, and new command-and-control systems-to demonstrate how doctrine, technology, and personnel reforms were closely linked. Methodologically grounded in defence budgets, congressional debates, official reports, and service doctrines, the study argues that the conventional buildup played a significant yet underappreciated role in shaping the Cold War's final phase. By strengthening deterrence, reassuring allies, and intensifying economic and technological competition, these reforms contributed to pressures that influenced Soviet policy choices and reforms, leaving an enduring imprint on the Cold War's outcome and the post-Cold War world. This book will be of much interest to students of US political history, Cold War Studies, strategic studies and International Relations"-- Provided by publisher
<tableOfContents>Defense budgets -- Carter's buildup -- The challenges of 1981 -- Doctrines of defense -- Procurement -- Research, development, test and evaluation -- Personnel -- Operations -- Dividends -- Beyond the buildup.</tableOfContents><note type="statement of responsibility" altRepGroup="00">Kevin D.
